A night on the town in Panama City
When the sun goes down, Panama City comes alive. The city is famous for its vibrant nightlife and residents love to go out at night and party. The city’s pleasant climate offers long, sultry nights with colourful drinks and lively music. Here follows a small selection of the city’s best restaurants, nightclubs and rooftop bars.
Cocktail with a view
The Amador Causeway is a dam that connects the 4 Causeway islands to the mainland of Panama City – this is a popular nightlife district. Traffic Island is a sought-after outdoor cocktail bar that serves a large selection of mojitos and other cocktails. The terrace offers a great view of the city’s sparkling skyline across the water. Get into the Caribbean spirit with lively salsa and merengue music. Of course guests are welcome to show off their dance moves.
Drinking in a dungeon
Tucked away below the old streets of Casco Viejo, the Relic Bar is housed in a dungeon inside the centuries old city walls. This is without a doubt the most intriguing bar in town. Guests can sit inside in the dungeon or grab a spot outside on the terrace. The bar also promotes local artists; every Thursday evening, a new artist creates a work of art live on stage. These artworks are then displayed in the bar’s gallery for 6 weeks and are available for purchase.
On the roof
Rooftop bars seem to be the latest trend around the world and Panama City offers some great ones. The Encima rooftop bar at the Tantalo Hotel is a popular hotspot that attracts both locals and tourists. One side the rooftop terrace looks out over the city’s modern high-rises and from the other side you can see the historic roofs of the Casco Viejo district. Colourful cocktails, pretty lights and great music create a perfect setting. The tapas restaurant downstairs is a great place to begin your night on the town.
Until the early hours
Panama City boasts countless nightclubs where patrons dance until sunrise. Buzz draws a diverse crowd and is always busy. The DJ spins a variety of tunes from the ‘80s and ‘90s, topped off with salsa and Latino pop songs. Fans of house music and hip-hop will enjoy Pure. This club features an indoor and outdoor dance floor where you can dance to many different styles of music.
